Her Guide for Surviving His Basic Training and AIT

Here are a few hints and tricks for getting through the worst parts of sending your guy off to be a part of the Army. Each idea was contributed by members of our community here at Army Wives Forums!

-During Boot Camp they wont be able to contact you for a few weeks so dont panic. They will, in the first few weeks, be able to contact you with their address via phone or snail mail. Only send letters with only their name and address and your name and address on the outside as they will get smoked for any heart, I love you, or anything on the outside (pushup, situp, etc).

-Writing a letter every day may sound like a lot, but it helps them SO MUCH MORE than you'll ever know. A simple letter a day can be that extra something they need to get through.

-On his letter, I always put on lipstick and "sealed it with a kiss"... it's a cute little joke and made him smile when he saw it.

-If you have children that are old enough, make a "countdown calendar". It helps them alot to be able to be a big part of it and they can look forward to that day when they get to see daddy again.

-Encourage you're children to write letters and help them if they're too young. Helps them feel like their apart of the process and not just abandoned!!!

-If you are able to travel to see your hubby at AIT during an off weekend...DO IT! It will make you feel better and it will help with the process! When they get deployed, you will not be able to drive to see him, so you want to make the best of it while you still have it 'good'!
